Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalitionのメーリングリストを見ていたら、ここで書いた101をくぐる部分がゲートで封鎖されている件についてカウンティ当局に問い合わせてくれた素晴らしい方がいらっしゃいました。それによると当局は今日ゲートを開けてくれるらしい。素晴らしいです。
ただ、書きたかったのはそのことではなく、その人のメールにあった、
PS - to those of you who have been getting around the locked gates using the drainage ramps parallel to the 101 underpass, be aware that these drainage ramps are absolutely infested with "goathead" stickers - when I walk my dogs through, they pick up at least 3 or 4 goatheads in their paws everytime. Beware!

”ヤギ頭”ってなんじゃぁと思って辞書を引いたけど載ってない。こういう時の頼みの綱、ウィキペディアで調べたらいきなり"Puncture Vine"にリダイレクトされて、

おお、うちの自転車達も何度かこの実でやられたことがあります！しかし"Puncture Vine"ってベタな名前ですねぇ。ちなみに日本では”ハマビシ”という名前で呼ばれているそうです。面白いのは日本では”海浜の環境破壊により生育数が激減しており、環境庁により絶滅危惧IB類に指定”されているそうですが、アメリカでは砂漠や痩せた土地でも育つため、エコシステム破壊に繋がると見られているようです。まるで正反対な見られ方をしてます。
ところで”ハマビシ”から忍者が敵に蒔く”蒔きビシ”を連想したんですが、あながち外れていないようです。忍者が蒔くのは菱の実を乾燥させた物だったそうで、ハマビシは”浜に生息する菱”というのが由来のようです。というようなことを子ども達の持っていた本（結構笑える）から知りました。
