Today our warmest congratulations go out to a notable young computer scientist, Dr. Luis van Ahn of Carnegie Mellon University. Based on his work in cryptography, AI, and natural intelligence, Luis has just been recognized as a Fellow by the MacArthur Foundation, which has granted him a "genius" award.
カーネギー・メロン大学の講師、Dr. Luis van AhnがJohn D. and Catherine T MacArthur Foundationから"Fellow"の称号を与えられたそうです。彼はブログをやっている人なら誰でも知っている、CAPTCHAを考えた一人であり、他にも先日言及したGoogle Image Labelerは彼のアイディアを元にしているんだそうです。
ところでこのJohn D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation（日本語だとマッカーサー基金かな？）、NPRのKQEDの番組とかでよくスポンサーになっていて、いままで何の組織なんだろうと思っていましたが、こういう組織だったんですね。なるほど。
他にも"For the greater good"をスローガンにしているTIAA-CREFという謎のスポンサーがあるんですが、これは今見たら博愛主義に基づいたフィナンシャルプランナーの様？やっぱりよくわかりません。
