昨日のコンサートへ向かう途中、車で聴いていたのがこれ：
This lecture from Golden Gate University features Chris Anderson, editor in chief of Wired Magazine and author of "The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More." Anderson's economic theory is that our culture and economy are increasingly shifting away from a focus on a relatively small number of "hits" (mainstream products and markets) and more toward a huge number of niches in the tail of the demand curve.
数日前にGolden Gate Universityで行われた、ロングテールの言い出しっぺであるWired Magazine編集長のChris Andersonの講演。早口だがやはり本人による解説はわかりやすい。
今までロングテール、ニッチも積もれば山となるぐらいにしか考えてなかったが、典型的な例として良く出されるAmazonやNetflixだけにとどまらず、様々な分野、例えば人材とかにも当てはまるというのは新鮮だった。そう言えばid:umedamochioさんのこのエントリーの後半に出てくる「mass amateurisation」現象はまさに人材のロングテールの事を言ってるんだと理解。
奥のキルト教室などはロングテールの極致だが、それでもサーチの恩恵を少しは受けているんでロングテールもhypeということはないんだろう（笑）。
