Race Across Americaというアメリカ横断レースがあるんですが、今年このレースに参加したJohn Spurgeonというオレゴンの選手がシングルスピードの自転車で完走したそうです。
Not exactly profound, but I was able to garner a quote from John Spurgeon with less than 9 miles to go to become the first human being, tough enough, fit enough and crazy enough to conquer the Race Across America on a single-speed bicycle, he said, “After the left turn”, which he followed up with, “Do not Disturb”.
レース結果を見ると、3042.8マイルを12日2時間11分で完走。平均スピード10.49m/h(16.88km/h)、これは休憩時間こみなので、平均巡行はもっと速いはず。
しかも来年は固定ギアでの参戦も考えているらしい。いやすごいです。
