トランプが自分の事業の所有権を第三者トラストに移管しない件、"conflict of interest"じゃないかという議論がされて久しいけど、その鍵になるのが合衆国憲法にあるこの語。第一条第九節の第八項に、
No title of nobility shall be granted by the United States: and no person holding any office of profit or trust under them, shall, without the consent of the Congress, accept of any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state.
合衆国は、貴族の称号を授与してはならない。合衆国から報酬または信任を受けて官職にある者は、連邦議会の同意なしに、国王、公侯または他の国から、いかなる種類の贈与、俸給、官職または称号をも受けてはならない。
とあるから。もちろん賄賂目的の金銭授受は犯罪として扱われるんで別だけど、この項に引っかかるのが例えばトランプのホテルに他国の政府高官が宿泊したときの費用が妥当か？と言った場合。
これを阻止できるのは議会だけれど、共和党主導の下院は感知しないだろうな。
