ご近所ネットで「この七面鳥は誰の？」というタイトルで近所を徘徊する七面鳥の写真を載せてるポストがあったんだけど、それのリプライで、

というのが。"pea hen"って「豆めんどり」？？？と思って調べたら、
The term peacock is properly reserved for the male; the female is known as a peahen, and the immature offspring are sometimes called peachicks.[1]
ということでメスの孔雀。今まで「孔雀＝ピーコック」という図式が頭にあったけど、peacockはオスを指すらしい。総称は"peafowl"。
まあ普通「孔雀だ！」と思うのはオスのピーコックであることに違いはないんだけど。
