Surfmen was the terminology used to describe members of the United States Lifesaving Service. It is also currently the highest qualification in the United States Coast Guard for small boat operations.

ほぼいつも霧の中、船舶の座礁が日常茶飯事だったんで灯台が作られたPoint Reyes。そこに人知れずある4人の救助隊員のお墓についてのコラム。
男の中の男。なんせモットーが、

「救助に出動しなければならない、が、必ずしも帰還する必要はない」しかもこの4人、全てヨーロッパからの移民（スウェーデンｘ２、ドイツ、フィンランド）というところが泣かせる。
