NightlynewsのKids editionでちらっと言ってたんだけど、魚の「群れ」で最も普通に使われるのが"school"なんだそう。
In biology, any group of fish that stay together for social reasons are shoaling, and if the group is swimming in the same direction in a coordinated manner, they are schooling.[1] In common usage, the terms are sometimes used rather loosely.[1]
なんで「メダカの学校」は英語的発想。
ちなみにクラゲの場合は"smack (of jellyfish)"と言うらしい。でも"nursing school"で「授乳するお母さんの集団」にはならない。英語難しい。
