International Jazz Day

今年も。もう12回目なんだそう、このユネスコのイベント。

今年もハービー・ハンコックの司会。２曲めがジャコパスのThree Views of a Secretのカバーでちょっと涙出た。

Marcus Miller/Christian McBride/Mike Stern登場のJekyll & Hyde。しかしマイク・スターン、よくここまで右手回復したなぁ、良かったよかった。

Herbie HancockはMiles Davis Quintet時代のFootprints。正統派はやっぱりよろしい。

次はリオデジャネイロ。コパカバーナにあるらしいBottles Barから。かつてアントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンとか出演してたらしいけど、そこでMas Que Nada。うーむ最高。しかしこのボーカルのYumi Parkという歌手、前も出てた気がするけど日系だよな、ブラジルだけに。

来年も続いてほしい。

Swing

と言ってもブランコでもJavaのクライアントライブラリでもない、Jazzのノリのことなんだけど、

タイトルにある、「科学者がSwingの秘密を明らかに」はちと釣りっぽいｗ。昔から音符の「タメ」がSwingの要因だと言われてたはず。渋い声のChristian McBrideもSwingを、

Instead of playing them straight, in jazz these notes are swung, meaning the downbeats — or every other eighth note — is played just a little longer, while the offbeat notes in between are shortened, creating a galloping rhythm

強迫の8分音符を若干長く、それ以外を短く演奏する、と明言。まあフィーリングで感じ取るのが一番であるけどね。

また一人、カリスマギタリストが逝ってしまう。このコンサートの感想で「若い！」と書いてたんだけどな。

WiredやBlow by Blowあたりは大昔ひたすら聴きまくった。バンドでも色々やったし。

このアルバム、基本前作Warna

のトリオ＋数曲にギター・サックス参加。なので前作の雰囲気を踏襲している＝正統な進化をしている。かなりオードソックスで自分好みなんだけど、古臭さを感じさせないのはやっぱり若いからだよな。
