Unix系OS（含Linux/MacOSX）やミドルウェア、Java/Perl/PHPはじめとする言語処理系がこぞって頼っていたOlson TZ databaseが以下のメッセージを残して無くなってしまった！
A civil suit was filed on September 30 in federal court in Boston; I'm a defendant; the case involves the time zone database.
The ftp server at elsie.nci.nih.gov has been shut down.
The mailing list will be shut down after this message.

これはTZのメーリングリストに流れたものだけれど、この直後メーリングリスト停止、データを提供していたFTPも停止。
停止の理由はcopyright infringementで提訴されたため。訴訟元はAstrolabe, Inc.という会社で、ここのソフトウェア"ACS Atlas"というもののデータを勝手に"public domain"として使っている、というクレーム。
訴状はこれなんだけれど、これを作ったLead Attorneyのemail addressがgmail.comというのがなんとも。。。
そもそもgmail提供元のGoogleはTZ database使いまくりなわけだけれど、これって矛盾してないか？
