しばらく前にベンチャー・キャピタリストのTim Draperが提案したカリフォルニア分割案。州務長官が請願の署名集めにGOを出したらしい。
According to the report, the new state of Silicon Valley, which would encompass most of the Bay Area, Santa Clara County and parts of the Central Coast, would have the highest per capita income in the nation, out-ranking Connecticut (funny coincidence that Draper resides). 上にある通り、これが実現すると全米で世帯あたりの収入が最も高い州("Silicon Valley")と最も低い州("Central California")が隣接することになる。しかしセントラル・カリフォルニア、貧乏なのは周知の事実だけれどそこまで低かったとは…。これは上手く行かんだろう。
それにしても6つの州の名づけ方が変な気がするのは気のせいだろうか。"Northern California"の上に"Jefferson"??? "West California"と言いつつ、現在のカリフォルニア州の中では東半分に位置するんですが…。
