uppercase/lowercaseとか、今日の目ウロコ、この"case"の語源、実際の箱だった。

The terms upper case and lower case can be written as two consecutive words, connected with a hyphen (upper-case and lower-case), or as a single word (uppercase and lowercase). These terms originated from the common layouts of the shallow drawers called type cases used to hold the movable type for letterpress printing. Traditionally, the capital letters were stored in a separate shallow tray or "case" that was located above the case that held the small letters.[1][2]
大昔、活版印刷で大文字の活字を入れていた箱が上側、小文字を入れていた箱が下側に配置されてたからなんだそう。
なんでこんなことにたどり着いたかというと、FB友のテックライターが"case"について説明してたんで。タイトルケース、センテンスケース、キャメルケース、スネークケース、とかいろいろあれど、そのポストでの発見は"kebab case"。ハッシュタグ系に使われる、"once-in-a-lifetime"とかハイフンで綴るやつ。見た目がケバブっぽいから、ってことだけど、日本人には焼き鳥だよね。
ということで焼き鳥食べたい。
