子供が「何で!?」と言った時用の、親の必殺切り返し文句。確か同名の映画があった：

しかし「恋とスフレと娘とわたし」って、なんつー邦題だ（笑）。rotten tomatoesで評価を見たら驚愕の5%。Concensusは、
Because I Said So is an unfunny, cliche-ridden mess that manages to make Diane Keaton temporarily unlikable. Manipulative, overly reliant on caricatures, and lacking a shred of human insight, this is one of 2007’s most misbegotten films.

前置きが長くなったけれど、書きたかったのは映画の事じゃなくて、何でこのフレーズを思い出したかについて。
I go to check in and the attendant asks "what's that?" I say a folding bike. She says "I have to charge you 50 bucks, we have a charge for bikes." I say that I understand, bikes are usually big and awkward but this folds up and is in a case and is under weight and maximum bag dimensions. And it is a folding bike, not a regular bike, designed for travelling. She says "nope, it's a bike and you have to pay." I ask if they charge for snowboards, which are longer than the bike. "Nope." I ask if they charge for skis, which are much longer than the bike and awkward. She says "nope" I ask her why she is charging me. "Because it's a bike."
Air Canadaで折りたたみ自転車をチェックインしようとしたら自転車サーチャージを取られたという話。規定重量、サイズに収まるケースに入った状態にもかかわらず、である。理由は"Because it's a bike."
子供のおもちゃのBig wheelはどうなのかとか、分解バラバラしてパーツ状態の自転車はどうなのかとか、自転車をモチーフにした置物は*1、とかいろいろ聞いてみたい気はする。
*1:この理由が通るなら、「これは自転車の形をしたオブジェだ！」と主張できる。
