Riders heading eastbound on Arastradero*1 Road come to a long descent that includes a sharp left turn by the entrance to the Seton Provincialate at 26000 Altamont. Unfortunately the roadway there slopes downward toward the outside of the turn and there is usually gravel along the right edge, which makes it difficult to stay on the road. A cycling acquaintance has personally witnessed crashes there on three occasions recently, each of which resulted in serious injuries to the rider.

ああ、これは知ってる場所。何といっても自分が一昨年のGiro di Peninsulaでコケた場所だから。Google Street Viewで見たのがこれ：

なんてことないコーナーに見えるけれど、長い下りの後のシャープなコーナー、しかも逆バンクがついていて、縁の舗装は砂がかぶっていることあり。自分がこけたときはまだガードレールが無く、そのまま縁から土手をずり落ちただけ、かすり傷だけで済んだけれど今はガードレールがあるんでシリアスな怪我になるケースが多いらしい。
この投稿者、他にもここでの落車の事例を探しているようだったんで自分のケースをメールで伝えておいた。これで少しでもここの安全状況改善につながるなら自分のアフォな落車も少しは役に立つというもんだろう。
