= 人生が楽しくありますように（直訳）
さっきやってたKQEDのPolitical Breakdown、
例のリコール選挙、現在一番人気のトークショーホストLarry Elder。本来このコラムに出てきてインタビューされるはずだったんだけどドタキャン。しかも2週連続ｗ。候補者のディベートにも出席せず。もう笑うしかないなこの人逃げまくってる。
で、コラムは仕方なく雑談進行だったけど、その中で出てきたのが初耳のこのフレーズ。まあコラム中は"Living in interesting times"と言ってたんだけど、
"May you live in interesting times" is an English expression that is claimed to be a translation of a traditional Chinese curse. While seemingly a blessing, the expression is normally used ironically; life is better in "uninteresting times" of peace and tranquility than in "interesting" ones, which are usually times of trouble.
初めに挙げた訳はもちろん直訳、実際は"interesting"="troublesome"の意味の皮肉表現。これ、ウィキペディアによれば中国語の呪いのフレーズが元、という風説をアメリカ人が信じてるらしいけど、実はそんな表現は中国語にはないんだそう。
これは中華料理のMSGに匹敵する濡れ衣ではないかな？
