昨日はナパさんを囲んでの食事。帰ったら１時過ぎ。今日は朝からテニス。帰ったら１２時過ぎ。気温が高く、汗ばむ陽気の中、久しぶりに３時間以上みっちりやった。
ここの高校のテニスコート、普段は例によって中国軍団が占領しているんだが、今日はなぜかがらがら、そのかわり普段はがらがらなはずの駐車場がほぼ満車状態。何かと思ったら今日はこの高校の来学期のためのレジストレーションの初日だったらしい。
Since June 2004, the district disqualified more than 200 students who had claimed to live within the districts boundaries, saving more than $1 million in staffing costs, Rowley said. District officials have conducted ``bed checks'' to verify student residency.
Letters explaining the new registration process are being mailed this week. It requires parents and guardians to provide three specific types of original documentation to register, including: a parent's picture identification such as a California driver's license, California ID card or valid passport; either a valid vehicle registration or state or federal tax returns filed within the last 12 months; and either a property tax bill with a parent's name and property address or a rental-lease agreement with parent's name, student's name and address, as well as manager or owner's name and telephone number. Utility bills will not be accepted as proof of residency.
この学区の高校は（周辺からすると）レベルが高いので、他の学区から越境して入学する生徒が絶えず、そのため学校のスタッフが抜き打ち検査をして調査をしていたそうで、それによるコストが馬鹿にならないらしい。財政面で貧窮しているこの辺の学校でこれは痛い。ちなみに検査で学区外であることが発覚すると即刻転校である。去年の６月から累計２００人を超える生徒の越境がこの調査で見つかったそうだ。
そのため来学期から生徒の登録方法を変更して越境者の事前摘発をより厳しくするそうである。記事によれば今までは電気・ガスの明細書の住所で証明になっていたのが、
- 保護者のカリフォルニア州発行ID（例えば免許証）、またはパスポート。
- 自動車登録またはタックスリターン（１２ヶ月以内の物）
- 固定資産税請求書または賃貸契約書（保護者・生徒の名前の入った物）
この三種類の書類で住所の証明をしないと生徒を登録できなくなったようである。中国軍団の親たちはこれで忙しくて今日はテニスお休みだったのかもしれない。
