一昨日のBoris Johnsonの"The Buck Stops Here"の件、
イギリス人同僚に聞いたら、
So far as I know it is American in origin, but quite well known in the UK.
I knew it before I moved here. "Passing the buck" is also well known.
Language is quite global these days. E.g. "Selfie" is used world-wide ....
イギリスでも普通に使うらしい。アメリカで"Keep Calm And Carry On"を使うのと一緒なんだろう。
が、しかし！実際ボリスの発言をちょっと巻き戻すと、
'Never mind the backstop, the buck stops here'
と言ってるんだよね。ここでbackstop、
EUが提示しているBrexitのアイルランド国境のことなんだけど、多分それに関してのオヤジギャグじゃないか、というのが一番ありそうな線。
